Bienvenidos
Welcome to the first of many entries about my Peace Corps experience in the Dominican Republic! I haven't left the States yet, but soon I'll be heading out to staging/orientation in Miami. Then, I'm off to the D.R. for 27 months to be trained and to serve as a "Community Economic Development Volunteer". My family and my close friends know my decision to join the Peace Corps wasn't an easy one. I've had my doubts, anxieties, and a ton of self-reflection throughout the process that has led me up to this point, but I'm glad to say that my parents came around and I have their support along with that of the rest of my family and friends. I recognized that the opportunity to serve as a volunteer is the best way for me to obtain my goals. Right now, I'm having a hard time saying good-bye to Seattle and I'm definitely going to miss everyone.

aww christie i'm really proud of what you are doing. there will be times when you'll feel lonely and will miss family and seattle. goodness, i've only been in the philippines for two months i'm already missing seattle. keep your chin up and know that we all will be thinking and praying for you. go and change the world!
